During the 5-Borough Day assignment, groups of Fellows each selected one of the 5 boroughs in New York City and designed a day to explore borough-specific issues ranging from Sandy recovery to healthcare access in immigrant communities to gentrification and real estate development.

The Fellows were responsible for creating their own learning by setting up meetings and experiences throughout the day to learn about an issue of their choice – and designing the entire day themselves! The day included meetings with State Senator Peralta in Queens, Bronx Borough President Rubin Diaz, Kamillah Hanks, President/CEO of Historic Tappen Park Community Partnership in Staten Island, longtime Brooklyn resident Rabbi Jacob Simonson.
